Ramsey: 'New system works for Arsenal'

Arsenal midfielder Aaron Ramsey talks up the effect that the team's change of formation had on their form towards the end of last season.

Arsenal midfielder Aaron Ramsey has said that he "felt good" playing in the team's 3-4-2-1 formation towards the end of last season.

Arsene Wenger switched to three at the back for the first time in 20 years after seeing his side go through a spell of poor form, and the change paid immediate dividends as Arsenal won nine of their last 10 games across all competitions, lifting the FA Cup in the process.

The Gunners are expected to stick with the new system for the upcoming campaign following the arrival of Alexandre Lacazette and links to Thomas Lemar, and Ramsey is hopeful that a successful season will follow.

"Arsenal are always linked with a million players. We never take any notice. I have to perform to the best of my ability to be in this team and that's what I do - I give my everything every time I'm in the team or going out to train," he told reporters.

"The system suited a lot of players. It gives us a platform to build from. I felt good in that formation - it freed me up to get forward a lot more and get into some dangerous positions so I really thought it worked for us towards the end of the season.

"I haven't set any goals but with this new formation a long season, hopefully an injury-free season. I know what I am capable of doing. If I can stay fit then hopefully it will take care of itself, but no targets, no."

Arsenal will kick off the new Premier League season at home to Leicester City on August 11.
