Arsenal striker Robin Van Persie has compared his Liverpool counterpart Andy Carroll to Premier League legend Alan Shearer ahead of the two sides' clash this weekend.
Carroll, like Shearer, wore the famed number 9 shirt for former club Newcastle United before his £35m move to Anfield.
"He's very strong and reminds me of Alan Shearer in style - holding the ball well, heading it strongly, moving nicely and looking lively in the box," said the Dutchman.
"We've seen what Carroll can do before - he scored the winner here for Newcastle last season. We'll need to be on our guard against him."
Arsenal and Liverpool both drew their opening games of the season.
