Arsene Wenger reveals Aaron Ramsey doubts

Arsene Wenger reveals that he had second thoughts about playing Aaron Ramsey at the Emirates Stadium last season.

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has revealed that he was unsure about playing Aaron Ramsey at the Emirates Stadium last season.

The Wales international midfielder, who has scored 11 goals in all competitions this term, was jeered by the Gunners' fans last campaign.

"Let's not forget that one year ago people were saying to me, 'It's difficult to play him at the Emirates.' You could see there was an impatience with him at home," The Mirror quotes Wenger as saying.

"You always are, as a manager, in a period where you think, 'Do I push him through and he can go more down, or do you give him a breather - to regenerate, to get him a fresh start?'

"That's always difficult for us to assess because it is linked to their mental state. When their own confidence is down, of course, they are in trouble. But he is a confident boy."

Wenger added that Ramsey should be commended his winning over the Arsenal fans.

"You have to give Aaron credit for that transformation - the credit goes to him because he could deal with that," said the Frenchman.

"He has shown he could come back, never give up, convince everybody that he has the needed quality."

Ramsey has scored five goals in his last six matches for Arsenal.
