Arsenal reportedly open talks with Barcelona striker David Villa over a permanent switch to the Emirates.

Arsenal have reportedly opened negotiations with Barcelona striker David Villa over a proposed move to the Emirates.

The Gunners have been heavily linked with a swoop for the Spaniard, who has failed to retain a spot in the club's first team, despite Barca boss Tito Vilanova insisting that Villa would not be sold from Camp Nou.

It is believed that Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger is keen to land the Spain international and is willing to pay £13.8m for his services on a permanent contract, according to Goal.com.

Reports have also claimed that the North-London outfit are prepared to match Villa's £110,000-a-week wages.
