Leicester City star James Maddison has reportedly told friends that he would like to join Tottenham Hotspur next year.

The 25-year-old's future at the King Power Stadium has recently been questioned following the Foxes' poor start to the new season.

Brendan Rodgers's side currently sit rock bottom of the Premier League table after losing six and drawing one of their opening seven matches.

Nevertheless, Maddison continues to impress for Leicester and the attacking midfielder has contributed with three goals and one assist in six top-flight appearances this term.

Newcastle United were strongly linked with a move to sign Maddison over the summer and they allegedly saw bids worth between £40m and £50m rejected by Leicester, who are thought to value the Englishman closer to £60m.

A recent report claims that the Magpies still hold an interest in the playmaker and they will test Leicester's resolve once again when the January transfer window opens.

However, Football Insider states that Maddison would prefer to move to Spurs and he has already told friends that he is "very keen" to join Antonio Conte's side in the New Year.

It remains to be seen whether Leicester would be willing to sell another of their star players after allowing Wesley Fofana to complete his £70m switch to Chelsea in the summer.

Maddison has less than 18 months remaining on his current contract and his £60m valuation is expected to fall if he decides against extending his deal.

Tottenham's rivals Arsenal have also been credited with an interest in Maddison in the past, and towards the end of the summer window, transfer insider Dean Jones suggested that the midfielder would prefer a switch to either club in North London over joining Newcastle.

Speaking to The Done Deal Show, Jones said: "I don't get any signs that Maddison actually wants to join Newcastle; from what I hear Maddison wants to join Tottenham or Arsenal."

"If he's going to leave Leicester one of those two need to make an offer. That's the latest I've heard."

Maddison's most recent Premier League goal was scored against Tottenham, who ran out 6-2 winners against Leicester before the international break.
