Aston Villa striker Gabriel Agbonlahor: 'We can beat the drop'

Aston Villa striker Gabriel Agbonlahor believes that there is "no reason" the club cannot escape relegation after scoring in a 2-0 win over Norwich City.

Gabriel Agbonlahor has said that there is "no reason" why Aston Villa cannot beat the Premier League drop after scoring in this afternoon's win over fellow strugglers Norwich City.

Agbonlahor sealed a 2-0 win with his first Premier League goal of the season as Villa cut the gap to safety to eight points with just their third league win of the season.

"We are going to keep fighting until the end," BBC Sport quotes the striker as saying. "That is all the club expects from us. Take it game by game.

"There is no reason why we cannot escape. We showed fight today. We had a gameplan - we defended well and attacked well."

If Villa are to avoid dropping out of the Premier League for the first time, they are likely to need some points from a tricky upcoming period; they face Liverpool, Stoke City, Everton, Manchester City and Tottenham Hotspur in their next five matches.
