Half-Time Report: Atletico Madrid in control over AC Milan

Atletico Madrid take a 2-1 lead on the night and a 3-1 lead on aggregate into half time of their Champions League last-16 second leg against AC Milan this evening.

Atletico Madrid have taken a 2-1 lead into the halfway stage of their Champions League last-16 second leg against AC Milan this evening, extending their aggregate advantage to 3-1.

The hosts made a perfect start to the match when they took the lead in just the third minute, Diego Costa supplying a fine acrobatic finish to convert Koke's cross and double Atletico's aggregate lead.

Milan's first real sight of goal came in the 26th minute when Mario Balotelli found himself in space inside the box, but Miranda did just enough to put the Italian striker off.

The visitors were level just one minute later, however, as Andrea Poli picked out Kaka with a cross towards the back post, and the Brazilian rose highest to nod home.

Kaka had a glorious chance to double his personal tally and put his side ahead on away goals in the 38th minute, but this time his header from Adel Taarabt's cross went over the bar.

Atletico regained the lead five minutes before the break when Arda Turan's strike took a big deflection off Adil Rami that diverted it past Christian Abbiati and into the top corner.

The hosts came close again just before the interval as Raul Garcia flashed a fine effort narrowly past the post moments after Costa's cross had been well cleared by Daniele Bonera.
