Preview: Austria Under-17s vs. Wales Under-17s - prediction, team news, lineups

Sports Mole previews Thursday's European Under-17s Championship clash between Austria Under-17s and Wales Under-17s, including predictions, team news and possible lineups.

Austria Under-17s and Wales Under-17s will both be looking to claim their first win of the European Under-17 Championship when they face off at the Ammochostos Stadium on Thursday.

Wales fell to a narrow defeat in their tournament opener, while Austria had to settle for a point in their opening game against Croatia.

Match preview

Austria experienced an underwhelming start to the tournament as they played out a goalless draw in Monday's clash with Croatia.

Although they would have wanted all three points, Austria will be pleased with the fact that they are now unbeaten in 10 consecutive internationals.

They will now turn their focus to Thursday's fixture, where they will look to take a leap towards securing their place in the knockout rounds for just the third time in seven tournament appearances.

After finishing in third spot in 2003, Austria experienced three group-stage exits, before they returned to the knockout rounds in 2016.

Having picked up a point, they have already bettered their performance from their previous appearance in 2019 when they lost all three games to finish bottom of their group.

Wales are featuring at their second European Under-17 Championship after appearing for the first time in last year's tournament in Hungary.

On that occasion, Wales finished bottom of the standings after winning one and losing two of their group matches.

Their hopes of bettering that performance received a setback on matchday one when they fell to a 2-0 defeat against Denmark.

The Young Dragons conceded the opening goal in first-half stoppage time, before they gifted Denmark a second after they failed in their attempts to play out from the back.

As a result of that defeat, Wales could be eliminated with a game to spare if they lose and Denmark take at least a point from their clash with Croatia.

Team News

Austria forward Thierry Fidjeu-Tazemeta will have to be assessed after being forced off in the first half against Croatia.

Philip Moizi came on to replace Fidjeu-Tazemeta, and he could be presented with a starting spot if the Dortmund youngster is unable to feature.

After featuring as a half-time substitute on Monday, Philipp Maybach is in contention to start Austria's second group match.

Wales boss Craig Knight could decide to name an unchanged lineup despite seeing his side fall to defeat against Denmark.

Norwich City's Elliot Myles will offer one of Wales' main goal threats, having scored six goals in 13 appearances for the Under-17 side.

Austria Under-17s possible starting lineup:
Kurz; Roka, Zabransky, Dalpiaz, Sorg; Music, Spalt, Maybach; Moizi, Hodl, Adejenughure

Wales Under-17s possible starting lineup:
Lines; Kpakio, Morrish, Walker-Smith, Thomas; Bradbury, Clarke, Gardner; Allen, Myles, Bostock

We say: Austria Under-17s 1-0 Wales Under-17s

Austria have proven to be a tough team to beat in recent times, and we think that they will continue their fine run of form by claiming a narrow win over Wales on matchday two.
