Sporting Gijon remain in the Segunda Division playoff zone after seeing off Barcelona B 1-0 in today's clash at El Molinon.

The game went through the motions in the early stages, with neither team able to assert their dominance.

The home side took the lead on the half-hour mark, as a dangerous free kick fell to Jonathan Menendez, who made no mistake from close range.

Despite the narrow scoreline, the Blaugrana were never in danger of securing an equaliser, with the Rojiblancos dominating their illustrious opponents for most of the game.

The result puts Sporting in sixth place in the Segunda Division table.
