Marc Bartra vows to continue improving

Barcelona defender Marc Bartra hopes to cement a regular first-team spot at the Camp Nou next season.

Barcelona defender Marc Bartra is hopeful of securing a regular first-team spot at the Camp Nou next season.

The Spanish centre-back enjoyed a productive 2013-14 campaign, with injuries to both Carlos Puyol and Gerard Pique for periods of the season handing Bartra a regular role in the XI.

Under new manager Luis Enrique, Bartra has said that he wants to "maintain that level of growth".

"My predisposition is to try and help the team as much as I can and as a starter, I know if I push my colleagues in the same position then that will raise the level of the team," he told Mundo Deportivo.

"It's my third year and I have to maintain that level of growth. Most teams play to minimise mistakes but here we play out with the ball from the back. If you add that to playing with 40 yards behind you and you have to be fast, it's not easy to find all these features in one player."

Barca are expected to sign at least one new centre-back this summer.
