Gerard Pique: 'Barcelona need a trophy'

Barcelona defender Gerard Pique urges his teammates to learn from their mistakes of last season and pick up at least one major trophy this time around.

Gerard Pique has warned his Barcelona teammates that their hard work this season will all be for nothing unless they get their hands on a trophy.

The Catalans secured a first-leg 3-1 win at Paris Saint-Germain last night to place one foot in the semi-finals of the Champions League.

Luis Enrique's side sit top of La Liga, two points ahead of Real Madrid, and also have a Copa del Rey final against Atletico Madrid to look forward to.

Optimism was similarly high in Catalunya at this stage of the season last term but they ultimately won nothing, and Pique is determined to right those wrongs this time around.

"This will mean nothing if we don't get any titles at the end of the season. There is still much work to be done and so much of the season still to go," he told reporters.

"Coming to Paris and getting the win is a great thrill for us. We lost 3-2 in the group stage here and it has been a different experience tonight. But the tie is not decided yet.

"We are very confident on the back of the results we have been earning this season. We are aware of how difficult it is to have a chance in three different competitions. But we can't have a rest this Saturday against Valencia. It is so hard to keep going, but it is a challenge we can face."

Goals from Neymar and a double from Luis Suarez helped Barca into a 3-0 lead at Parc des Princes, before Jeremy Mathieu netted an 82nd-minute own goal to give Les Parisiens some hope next Tuesday.
