Porto beat Bayern Munich in Champions League quarter-final first leg

Goals from Ricardo Quaresma and Jackson Martinez give Porto a 3-1 win in the first leg of their Champions League quarter-final against Bayern Munich.

Porto have stunned Bayern Munich to claim a 3-1 win in the first leg of their Champions League quarter-final at Estadio do Dragao this evening.

The home side had a chance to open the scoring just three minutes into the tie when Manuel Neuer brought down Jackson Martinez in the penalty area after rushing off his line, leaving Porto with a spot kick.

Ricardo Quaresma stepped up to take the penalty, sending the keeper the wrong way to coolly slot into the bottom corner.

The winger picked up a second inside the opening 10 minutes after Dante failed to close him down, leaving Quaresma to burst into the box unmarked before rifling past Neuer for a second time.

Philipp Lahm tried to find Thomas Muller to get Bayern back into the tie, but Alex Sandro beat the striker to it, while Bruno Martins Indi ensured that Robert Lewandowski could not get his shot away.

The German champions were back in the game before the interval though as Jerome Boateng charged down the right before crossing for Thiago Alcantara to tap in at the far post.

Neuer almost handed Porto a third in the final moments of the first half when a Martinez cross caught the keeper out, slipping through his hands before striking the crossbar.

Porto continued to look lively at the start of the second half as Quaresma tried to find Danilo in the box, but Juan Bernat was back to block it for the visitors.

Neuer was called into action before the hour mark when Danilo turned provider, crossing the ball in from out wide for Hector Herrera, but the midfielder's first-time strike was diverted behind by the keeper.

The Portuguese side did regain a two-goal lead shortly after though as Martinez got the better of Boateng in the box to control a long ball forward before rounding Neuer and slicing it in from a tight angle.

Bayern came close to snatching a goal back straight away as Alcantara pulled the ball back to Sebastian Rode on the edge of the penalty area, but Fabiano made a comfortable save.

There was bad news for the hosts late on though as Danilo was shown a yellow card, which means that he and Sandro will both be suspended for the second leg of the tie.

While Bayern will need to score at least twice in the second leg at the Allianz Arena next week, their away goal could yet prove vital.
