Breno rejoins Sao Paulo after release from prison

Brazilian defender Breno rejoins Sao Paulo after serving his three-year sentence in prison for arson.

Former Bayern Munich defender Breno has rejoined Sao Paulo after serving three years in prison for arson.

The Brazilian centre-back was arrested in 2011 and was later charged and sentenced to jail for arson in 2012, after setting his own home on fire.

The 25-year-old coached Bayern Munich's reserves on day release but moved back to Brazil once he finished his sentence, where he says he can 'put his past behind him'.

"I am very happy to return home. Now I just want to think positively and look forward, because I want to help Sao Paulo win trophies," Breno said, according to Goal.com.

"Even from afar, I always followed the club via the internet. I would log on to sites to see how the team was doing in the league or whether they had injuries or suspensions, because I never failed to follow Sao Paulo.

"Sao Paulo have always supported me. Even in the most difficult times, the people at the club were supporting me. And that continues today. The affection that the club has for me is the same that I have for them."

The Brazilian club are thought to have lent emotional and financial support to Breno during his time in prison.
