Jimmy Armfield: 'Burnley need to strengthen'

Former England international Jimmy Armfield feels that Burnley will need to improve in a few areas to compete in the Premier League next season.

Former England international Jimmy Armfield believes that Burnley will need to strengthen their squad following their promotion to the Premier League.

The Clarets confirmed their return to the top flight following a four-year absence with a 2-0 win over Wigan Athletic, as goals from Ashley Barnes and Michael Kightly secured the three points at Turf Moor.

Armfield told BBC Sport: "I do think Burnley's squad needs strengthening, I think young players like Ben Mee and Kieran Trippier have done well and will make the step up.

"Sean Dyche should enjoy the next few days but then he has got to be thinking ahead, and I think he will be looking around to strengthen the squad."

Burnley lasted just one season in the Premier League in the 2009-10 campaign, following their last promotion.
