Half-Time Report: Kwesi Appiah double gives Cambridge United the lead

Kwesi Appiah scores twice as Cambridge United come from behind to take a 2-1 lead against Oxford United.

Two goals from Kwesi Appiah have given Cambridge United a 2-1 lead over Oxford United after the first 45 minutes of their League Two clash this afternoon.

Danny Hylton gave the visitors the lead in the ninth minute when he headed in from Tom Newey's cross.

Appiah almost levelled the scores just moments later, but his long-range effort came crashing off the bar.

On the half-hour mark Cambridge came close again as Robbie Simpson saw his header pushed away by Ryan Clarke.

With four minutes of the first half remaining the hosts drew level as Appiah fired a strike into the top corner past Clarke.

Appiah then scored his second of the match on the stroke of half time when he saw his initial shot saved by the keeper, before chipping the rebound into the net.

Michael Raynes smashed an effort against the post in first-half stoppage time as Cambridge held onto their lead going into the break.
