Peter Odemwingie: "Cardiff City are here to stay"

Cardiff City's Peter Odemwingie believes that the club have the necessary requirements to survive their first season in the Premier League.

Peter Odemwingie is confident that Cardiff City have what it takes to survive their first season in the Premier League.

Malky Mackay's men were promoted into England's top flight division via winning the Championship last season and, having earned a 2-2 draw with champions Manchester United on Sunday, the former West Brom striker says the Bluebirds are "here to stay".

Speaking to Wales Online, he said: "Belonging in the Premier League was the first thing that came into my mind when we equalised [against Manchester United].

"The joy around the stadium, I felt like Cardiff is here to stay. There is a lot of work to be done and confidence is the key.

"This is the first year in the league but the performance we showed we are not like the struggling sides. Sometimes we don't show the best football but the spirit of the team is very strong."

Cardiff have amassed 12 points from their opening 13 fixtures this season but sit just three points clear of the relegation zone.

The Nigeria international, who joined the Welsh outfit from the Baggies in the summer, has struck once in his first eight fixtures for the club.
