EFL Cup final: Mohamed Salah record vs. Chelsea

Sports Mole looks at Mohamed Salah's record against Chelsea ahead of Liverpool's clash with the Blues in the EFL Cup final.

Mohamed Salah faces a 'last-minute fitness test' to determine whether he will be available for Liverpool's clash with Chelsea in the EFL Cup final on Sunday afternoon.

The Egypt international is struggling with a muscular complaint, and a late call will therefore need to be made on the 31-year-old, who has scored 19 times and registered 10 assists in 28 games for Liverpool this term.

Liverpool, for obvious reasons, will be desperate to have their star player available for selection, while Chelsea will be hoping that the match comes too soon for the world-class forward.

Here, Sports Mole looks at how Salah has performed against Chelsea during his professional career.

Salah has tackled the Blues on 22 occasions during his career, boasting a record of nine wins, seven draws and six defeats against them, scoring seven goals and registering three assists in the process.

The Egyptian faced Chelsea in the Europa League and Champions League during his time at Basel, and he actually helped his team beat the London side twice in the group stage of the 2013-14 Champions League, scoring home and away against the club that he would later join.

Salah has never faced Chelsea in the Champions League or Europa League during his time at Liverpool, but he did help the Reds beat the Blues on penalties in the UEFA Super Cup in 2019-20.

The forward has tackled the capital side on 13 occasions in the Premier League, boasting a record of four wins, seven draws and two defeats, managing four goals and three assists in the process.

Salah has also faced Chelsea on four occasions in the domestic cup competitions during his time at Liverpool, with two of those games taking place in the FA Cup and two in the EFL Cup.

The forward played in both finals between the two sides in 2021-22, helping Liverpool to triumph on penalties in the EFL Cup and FA Cup during that particular campaign.

However, he was a part of the Liverpool side that lost 2-0 to Chelsea in the fifth round of the 2019-20 FA Cup and was a late substitute in a 2-1 loss for the Reds in the third round of the EFL Cup in 2018-19.

Salah has had mixed success against Chelsea during his professional career, and he has not scored against them since their Premier League clash at Stamford Bridge in the second half of the 2021-22 campaign.
