Hull City's Steve Bruce: 'Chelsea were rampant'

Steve Bruce says that Chelsea were "rampant" during the opening 30 minutes of the Blues' 2-0 victory over Hull City.

Hull City manager Steve Bruce has said that Chelsea were "rampant" in the opening 30 minutes of today's match at Stamford Bridge.

Chelsea ran out comfortable 2-0 winners, with Oscar and Frank Lampard both scoring in the first 25 minutes.

"Chelsea were rampant for the first 30 minutes," Bruce told reporters after the game. "When they play with that intensity, movement and fluidity, they are a constant threat.

"In the second half human nature sees them take their foot off the pedal but not many teams could live with them early on.

"I think Allan McGregor could have done better with the free-kick when he sees it again but the ball moves all over the place. It was a wonderful strike."

Despite the defeat, Bruce was not too disheartened by the performance and believes his side will bounce back, particularly when their summer signings are up to speed.

"Tom Huddlestone and Jake Livermore will make a difference to us," he said. "We were certainly better when they come on. But our season won't be defined by games against the likes of Chelsea."

Hull won promotion to the Premier League on the final day of the 2012-13 season.
