Chelsea consider appointing Gianfranco Zola as their manager until the end of the season, according to a report.

Chelsea are reportedly considering appointing Gianfranco Zola as their manager until the end of the season.

Maurizio Sarri only took charge of Chelsea last summer following a successful period with Napoli.

The Blues made a strong start to the campaign, but their Premier League form has been inconsistent in recent weeks, which has seen them drop out of the Champions League positions.

Chelsea were thumped 6-0 at Manchester City on Sunday afternoon and the odds on Sarri being sacked have been slashed following the disappointing result at the Etihad Stadium.

Sarri has acknowledged that he is 'worried' about his future and according to Sport Mediaset, Chelsea are considering axing the 60-year-old and placing current assistant Zola in charge until the end of the campaign.

Chelsea have a busy few weeks as they prepare to face Malmo in the knockout round of the Europa League on Thursday, before welcoming Manchester United in the fifth round of the FA Cup on February 18.

The Blues will then host Malmo for the second leg of their Europa League tie ahead of the EFL Cup final against Manchester City on February 24.
