Stoke City stun Chelsea with late winner

Oussama Assaidi scores a late winner for Stoke City against Chelsea.

Stoke City have stunned Chelsea with a 90th-minute goal to beat the Blues 3-2 at the Britannia Stadium in the Premier League.

The visitors almost took an early lead after only four minutes. Andre Schurrle did well to pull the the ball back, but Ramires's first-time shot went well over.

However, it was 1-0 to the Blues just five minutes later. John Obi Mikel found Schurrle in the box, and the German international fired a low shot past Asmir Begovic.

It almost got even better for Jose Mourinho's men, but Juan Mata's decent strike was well held by Begovic.

Stoke were poor at this point and were fortunate that Eden Hazard decided to pass to Fernando Torres after he had dribbled into the box.

However, despite their lack of chances, the home side equalised before the break.

Petr Cech came for a Jonathan Walters cross but then changed his mind. The ball was then controlled by Peter Crouch, who fired a shot through a number of players.

Mark Hughes's men went 2-1 ahead with five minutes gone in the second half. Substitute Stephen Ireland received the ball from Walters and then opened up his body before curling a shot beyond the reach of Cech.

Their lead lasted for only three minutes. Mata floated in a cross which the Stoke defence failed to clear and Schurrle smacked in a 20-yard shot past Begovic for 2-2.

The German was inches away from getting his hat-trick when a curling shot came back off the crossbar.

The Potters could have gone 3-2 ahead, but this time Ireland's accuracy let him down with just Cech to beat from eight yards out.

Frank Lampard, who had come on a substitute, managed to fire his free kick through the Stoke wall, but Begovic was there to save.

However, with the match heading for a draw, Stoke stunned their opponents with a 90th-minute winner.

Oussama Assaidi picked up the ball on the left flank, cut inside and smacked a swerving shot past Cech.
