Atletico Madrid are reportedly obliged to pay Chelsea a fee of £48m for Alvaro Morata at the beginning of July.

Chelsea are reportedly due to receive £48m from Atletico Madrid for Alvaro Morata at the beginning of July.

Despite a return of 24 goals from 72 appearances in all competitions, Morata's unhappiness in London led to a return to Madrid in January 2019.

While the Blues were happy to sign off on an 18-month loan deal, an agreement was reached on the basis that Atletico complete a permanent transfer in the summer of 2020.

According to Marca, Chelsea will soon be due to receive £48m from the La Liga outfit, a substantial fee given the financial implications of the coronavirus pandemic.

The report hints that fulfilling that obligation will represent Atletico's biggest piece of business during the next transfer window.

Morata has endured an indifferent spell at Wanda Metropolitano, contributing just 14 strikes from 38 outings in Spain's top flight.
