Fenerbahce centre-back Attila Szalai emerges as a January transfer target for Chelsea, according to a report.

Chelsea are reportedly lining up a January move for Fenerbahce centre-back Attila Szalai.

The 23-year-old has again been a key player for his Turkish club during the 2021-22 campaign, making 16 appearances in all competitions.

Szalai has also been capped on 21 occasions by Hungary and represented his country at this summer's European Championship, featuring against Portugal, France and Germany.

According to reports in Hungary, Chelsea have been monitoring the central defender throughout this season and are now lining up a mid-season offer.

The Blues are allegedly prepared to pay £17m for a player who still has four years left to run on his contract with Fenerbahce, having only arrived in January from Apollon Limassol.

Szalai has featured on three occasions in the Europa League this season, while he has played every minute of his team's 2021-22 Super Lig campaign to date.
