Tottenham Hotspur confirm the signing of Cristian Romero after taking up the option to sign the defender on a permanent transfer from Atalanta BC.

Tottenham Hotspur have announced that they have signed Cristian Romero on a permanent transfer.

The Argentina international joined Spurs on a one-year loan deal last summer from Atalanta BC and went on to establish himself in the Tottenham backline.

Romero made 30 appearances for the North London club in all competitions last term, chipping in with one goal and one assist.

With the purchase clause set to expire at the end of August, Tottenham have confirmed they have signed the Argentine on a permanent transfer.

Tottenham will pay a reported £41m fee for the defender, who has signed a contract to remain with Spurs until 2027.

Romero started against Southampton and Chelsea but has missed Tottenham's last two matches due to an adductor problem.
