Emotional Steven Pressley hails Coventry City homecoming

Coventry boss Steven Pressley pays tribute to his troops after they marked their homecoming at the Ricoh Arena with a 1-0 win over Gillingham.

An emotional Steven Pressley has paid tribute to his Coventry City team after marking their return to the Ricoh Arena with a 1-0 win over Gillingham on Friday.

Debutant Frank Nouble struck after 10 minutes as Coventry ensured that they enjoyed a triumphant homecoming following an 18-month absence.

The Sky Blues had been forced to play their home fixtures at Nottingham-based Sixfields since April 2013 due to a dispute between the club's owners and the group that owns the Ricoh.

He told Sky Sports News: "It's a night on which I am immensely proud to be the manager of this football club. I couldn't be prouder of these players – they've endured a lot and so have the supporters. To win makes it a very fitting night.

"I had tears in my eyes when we came out onto the pitch. It's been building for some time. The club has taken a massive step forward.

"Regardless of your strategy, developing young players and all that kind of thing, you're never going to move forward unless you play at your home ground."

The victory marked Coventry's second win of the League One season and propelled Pressley's side up to eighth in the table.
