Report: Aitor Karanka in line for Crystal Palace job

Reports suggest that Aitor Karanka will become the new Crystal Palace manager.

Crystal Palace are reportedly on the verge of appointing former Real Madrid assistant Aitor Karanka as their new manager.

The 40-year-old Spaniard, who worked under Jose Mourinho at the Bernabeu, held talks with Eagles chairman Steve Parish last week, and is expected back in South London for further discussions.

Keith Millen has taken charge of first-team duties since Ian Holloway left the club by mutual consent, and reports have linked a number of managers to the vacant hotseat, including Wales boss Chris Coleman.

However, The Guardian reports that Karanka is the number one choice at Selhurst Park, despite his lack of managerial experience.

The former Spanish international enjoyed a 14-year career as a player with clubs such as Athletic Bilbao and Real Madrid, before retiring in 2006 after a season with the Colorado Rapids.
