England Under-21s end qualifying campaign with thumping win

England Under-21s hit five unanswered goals past their Bosnia-Herzegovina counterparts as they round off their U21 Euro 2017 campaign in a positive manner.

England Under-21s have defeated Bosnia-Herzegovina Under-21s 5-0 at the Banks's Stadium to round off their U21 Euro 2017 campaign on a high.

The Young Lions had already made sure of top spot in the group, and a place in Poland for the finals next summer, after seeing off Kazakhstan last Thursday.

Bosnia, without a win to their name during the qualifying campaign, started the game the brighter but were unable to truly trouble their far-from-full-strength opponents.

The breakthrough moment arrived 15 minutes in for England as John Swift picked up the ball on the edge of the box, shifted it onto his right foot and rifled into the top corner.

Nathaniel Chalobah came close to doubling the hosts' lead with his attempt, which was well kept out, but the Chelsea man played a part in the second of the afternoon when his shot was parried into the path of Tammy Abraham to make it two.

England, managed by Aidy Boothroyd once again in the absence of Gareth Southgate, were looking well in control for large parts of the first half and looked bright when getting the ball forward, yet Bosnia would have had a lifeline in the game if not for a fine Christian Walton stop on his debut.

The second half started in an impressive manner for the Young Lions, as Tottenham Hotspur ace Joshua Onomah stole the ball off an opposition player and picked out the bottom corner on his first appearance for the U21s.

Duncan Watmore was looking particularly bright, and he was rewarded just after the hour mark thanks to a calm finish at the end of a fine Jack Grealish assist - the Aston Villa youngster's first run-out of this qualifying campaign, which ended with the sponsors' Man of the Match award.

Things went from bad to worse for a winless Bosnia side, with Abraham helping himself to a second with a dinked finish on the break, but there was to be no fifth overall as Demarai Gray squandered the other big chance.
