England manager Roy Hodgson admits that he is nervous heading into Friday's opening World Cup qualifying match with Moldova.

England manager Roy Hodgson has admitted that he will 'feel the responsibility' when England begin their World Cup qualifying campaign against Moldova on Friday.

Hodgson will be hoping it will be the start of a comfortable passage to Brazil in 2014, and while he has admitted that he has nerves heading into tonight's match, he insists that he will treat it as a positive thing.

Hodgson told reporters: "If you ever lose that nervousness, you lose a lot of the qualities that have driven you to become a coach or footballer. It's part and parcel of being a footballer or a manager at a good level.

"You feel nervous. You are aware of the expectations. You don't want to let anyone down, but I've been nervous before the other games as well.

"The fact it's a match involving England that interests so many in the country; you feel that responsibility to get the result you're looking for."

The former Fulham, Liverpool and West Bromwich Albion manager has yet to lose a match with England, although they were knocked out of Euro 2012 on penalties by Italy.
