England manager Roy Hodgson has revealed that he wants to talk with Rio Ferdinand before he decides to pick the defender again.
The Manchester United player was selected for the Three Lions' recent World Cup qualifiers against San Marino and Montenegro, but withdrew from the squad because of concerns over his fitness.
"If he is going to play in the future there will have to be further discussions, not least about his fitness programme and his club," Hodgson told Sky Sports News.
Ferdinand won the last of his 81 England caps two years ago.
