Romelu Lukaku: "I thought we would win"

Everton striker Romelu Lukaku admits that he thought his side would beat Newcastle United from the moment they stepped out onto the pitch at Goodison Park.

Everton striker Romelu Lukaku has revealed that he was confident his side would beat Newcastle United in their Premier League clash at Goodison Park this afternoon.

James McCarthy fired Roberto Martinez's men into the lead in the first half and Lukaku scored from the penalty spot to hand them control of the match at Goodison Park.

Ross Barkley added a late goal to seal the three points and ease the club's relegation worries in the top flight by moving six points clear of the drop zone.

Lukaku told BBC Sport: "Everyone was pumped up for this game and as soon as we came on the pitch I thought we would win.

"It was important to be 2-0 up, Newcastle are a good team going forward and as soon as we got the second we had control of the game."

Everton are 14th in the Premier League following their win over the Magpies.
