Everton's Roberto Martinez: 'Roy Keane's pressure claims are nonsense'

Roberto Martinez says that it is "nonsense" for Roy Keane to suggest that Everton put pressure on Republic of Ireland players James McCarthy and Seamus Coleman.

Everton manager Roberto Martinez has rejected Roy Keane's suggestions that the club put pressure on their players not to feature in internationals due to fear of injuries.

The Republic of Ireland assistant boss accused Everton of overstating James McCarthy's and Seamus Coleman's injuries before they join up with the national side.

Today, Martinez addressed the comments in his press conference by saying: "It is completely nonsense. We have a good relationship with [Ireland manager] Martin O'Neill and we keep in touch frequently and share information.

"We are always very proud when our players represent their countries, and the record shows that. Every player at our club is desperately proud to represent their countries.

"A lot has been said, a lot is nonsense. The reality is the conversation between managers of the associations and ourselves has been good and will continue to be."

McCarthy was released back to his club last week due to fears that he could aggravate a hamstring issue by playing.
