Everton 'in contract dispute' with James McCarthy

Republic of Ireland midfielder James McCarthy has reportedly fallen out with Everton over his contract.

Everton may be forced to sell midfielder James McCarthy this summer over a contract dispute, according to reports.

The Republic of Ireland international has established himself as a key player for Roberto Martinez since he joined from Wigan Athletic in a £13m deal in 2013.

However, his stay on Merseyside could come to an end as the Daily Mail reports that Everton have not fulfilled their promise of improving his current deal.

The report claims that the club assured McCarthy that his wages would rise if he performed well, but he has yet to be offered a new deal despite two impressive campaigns.

Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur are said to be keeping tabs on the situation, and are ready to launch a bid should he wish to leave.

The 24-year-old has made 37 appearances for the Toffees this season.
