Everton have reportedly rejected a bid worth £1m from Championship side Wigan Athletic for midfielder Joe Williams.
Despite never playing for Everton's senior side, Williams has impressed potential suitors during loan spells at Barnsley and Bolton Wanderers over the last two campaigns.
Wigan have made a formal offer of £1m for the 22-year-old, who only has one year left on his existing contract, but this bid has been rejected by the Toffees.
According to the Daily Mail, Wigan are determined to sign Williams and will return with an improved offer in the coming days.
Williams is unlikely to feature at Goodison Park next season following the club's acquisition of midfield duo Andre Gomes and Fabian Delph in the transfer window.
Marco Silva's men will face Bundesliga sides Mainz 05 and Werder Bremen in their last pair of pre-season friendlies ahead of the club's Premier League opener at Crystal Palace on August 10.
