Roberto Martinez hails Sylvain Distin's longevity

Everton manager Roberto Martinez suggests that he would like Sylvain Distin to sign a new contract with the club.

Everton manager Roberto Martinez has praised the way that Sylvain Distin has looked after himself in recent years.

Despite being 35 years old, the Frenchman has featured in all 15 of Everton's Premier League matches so far this season.

His contract is due to expire in the summer, but Martinez has hinted that he would like the centre-back to extend his stay at Goodison Park.

"I'm proud to have a player like Sylvain Distin representing Everton because he has got incredible standards," BBC Sport quotes Martinez as saying.

"Age becomes a number. Sylvain looks after himself. He is always the last man out at Finch Farm and he could play for a long, long time."

Distin joined the Merseysiders from Portsmouth in 2009.
