Report: Davy Klaassen's Napoli loan move collapses

Davy Klaassen looks likely to remain at Everton for the duration of the campaign as a loan switch to Napoli reportedly broke down on deadline day.

Napoli have reportedly ended their interest in Davy Klaassen after being reminded that the Everton midfielder is unable to feature in the Europa League.

The Netherlands international's arrival at Goodison Park in the summer was viewed as a coup of sorts, having seen his name linked with numerous sides following some standout displays for Ajax.

Klaassen has failed to live up to the early hype, however, and was one of two players boss Sam Allardyce was keen to get off the wage bill in the closing stages of the winter window - Sandro Ramirez, now at Sevilla until the end of the campaign, being the other.

Napoli emerged as the most likely destination for the Dutchman but, according to Sky Sport Italia, a bizarre twist has seen the Partenopei pull out of a deal.

Complications regarding image rights proved to be a sticking point in discussions, and the report claims that Napoli did not factor in that Klaassen has already been used in the Europa League by Everton during the group stage, making him ineligible for the knockout rounds.
