FIFA to change guidelines for goal replays

FIFA confirms that it will change the guidelines for showing replays of goal-line technology in use at the World Cup.

FIFA has confirmed that they will change the guidelines for showing replays of the goal-line technology system in use during games in Brazil.

There was some confusion in Porto Alegre on Sunday in France's 3-0 win over Honduras after the replay displayed the technology showing when the ball had not crossed the line, before confirming an own goal from Noel Valladares, and the sport's governing body is keen to avoid a similar situation later in the tournament.

"We are working to make it even more clear and will modify the guidelines so that you just see the goal," FIFA spokeswoman Delia Fischer told reporters.

"There was no mistake but we will modify the guidelines to make it even more clear for the viewers in the stadium and on TV.

"Yesterday's situation was quite unique as the ball hit the inside of the post, rebounded away from goal before hitting the goalkeeper and rolling across the goal-line."

The technology was first used by FIFA at the Club World Cup in December.
