Martin Jol admits that he would like more English players at Fulham, but says that they are too expensive.

Fulham manager Martin Jol has claimed that English players cost too much money.

The Dutchman is expected to field nine players from outside the United Kingdom in his starting lineup when he faces Newcastle United today.

He admits that he has had to assemble a cosmopolitan squad because English players are too expensive.

"I always wanted to have an English spine," said Jol. "But it's too costly.

"It is almost impossible to pay those prices so I have to be inventive.

"I admire Newcastle's Frenchmen, they remind me of Arsenal. They have done ever so well with their French players. Now we are a cosmopolitan team also."

Fulham travel to St. James' Park to face Newcastle United at 3pm this afternoon.
