Werder Bremen have booked their spot in the second round of the DFB-Pokal following a 3-2 win over FV Illertissen.
The Bundesliga outfit needed extra-time to overcome the minnows when the two sides could not be separated during normal time.
It was Bremen who took the lead after just four minutes when Izet Hajrovic converted from close range, but the home side were level 20 minutes later when Moritz Nebel found the back of the net during what was an end-to-end period of the match.
Bremen took control in extra-time, however, registering through Assani Lukimya-Mulongoti and Davie Selke to move 3-1 ahead.
The home side were not finished and cut the score to 3-2 through Marc Hammerle on 102 minutes, but Bremen held on in the latter stages to advance from the first-round match.
