Scunthorpe United ease past 10-man Gillingham

Scunthorpe United end Gillingham's unbeaten home record with a comfortable 3-0 win this afternoon.

Goals from Paddy Madden, Neal Bishop and Gary McSheffrey gave Scunthorpe United a 3-0 win against 10-man Gillingham in League One this afternoon.

Doug Loft was shown a red card for leaving the floor with both feet when lunging into a tackle on Luke O'Neill 10 minutes before the break.

The visitors made their numerical advantage count shortly before the break when Madden profited from a couple of defensive slips to take it around the keeper to give his side the lead.

Gillingham boss Peter Taylor was then sent to the stands at the death of the first half after protesting too fervently to the fourth official.

After the restart, Madden thought that he'd scored his second of the afternoon, but his looping header was ruled out for offside.

However, the Irons did make it 2-0 thanks to Bishop's point-blank header on 72 minutes before McSheffrey broke clear in stoppage time to round the goalkeeper and put the gloss on the result and end Gillingham's unbeaten home record.
