David Wagner: 'Huddersfield Town on track to avoid drop'

David Wagner is adamant that Huddersfield Town are "on track" to avoid the drop but acknowledges that his side must improve in the second half of the season.

David Wagner has claimed that Huddersfield Town are "on track" to avoid the drop but acknowledges that his side must improve in the second half of the season.

The Terriers played out a second goalless draw of the season against Burnley on Saturday to end 2017 in 11th place and six points clear of the Premier League relegation zone.

Four straight defeats in November caused concern among the Huddersfield fans, but nine points from the last six matches have raised optimism once again.

"It's all about survival," Wagner told Sky Sports News. "This chapter we started with the first game of the Premier League, I think we are on track, not more.

"We know we have to improve. We're on a good starting point to achieve our target, to survive in the Premier League, not more, not less. Anything else is totally irrelevant."

Huddersfield begin 2018 with a trip to the King Power Stadium to face Leicester City, who are without a win in five matches in all competitions.
