The home side could have been in the lead after just two minutes played, as Ahmed Elmohamady sent an inch-perfect cross towards Nikica Jelavic at the back post, but the Croatian's header flew wide of the target.

The Eagles then won a free kick on the edge of the box a few minutes later, but Mile Jedinak curled his effort over the bar.

The game went through the motions for the majority of the first half, with the action mostly congested in midfield, although Andrew Robertson came close for Hull in the 21st minute when, approaching from the left flank, he struck a ball wide from a tight angle.

The hosts, however, had another great chance to break the deadlock with five minutes left of the opening half after putting together a good spell of pressure inside the Palace final third.

After several crosses were cleared away by the Eagles, the ball dropped to Mohamed Diame, who exchanged passes with Abel Hernandez before firing in a low strike across goal that flew just wide of the far post.

On the hour, the home side took the lead when the Senegal captain meeting Robertson's pinpoint cross with a thumping header that gave Julian Speroni no chance.

Palace immediately set about trying to level proceedings and soon found themselves dominating possession, but lacked precision and power in the final third.

Save for a stinging effort by Yannick Bolasie that had to be tipped over the bar by Steve Harper and a poor strike by Jason Puncheon, the Eagles were unable to truly test the Tigers defence.

Hull had the final say when they added another goal in the final minute of normal time, Jelavic being played clean through on goal by Jake Livermore and slotting a low finish into the corner past Harper.
