Former Liverpool striker Djibril Cisse has called upon the organisers of the Russian World Cup to react to the reported problems of racism in the country ahead of his current side's Europa League clash with Swansea City on Thursday night.
Cisse currently plays for Russian outfit Kuban Krasnodar in the Russian Football Premier League and has talked of his experiences of racism first-hand when playing in the region.
"Zenit fans threw bananas at us when I played there for Marseille," said Cisse, according to The Mirror.
"It's disappointing. Most Russian teams have black players so I don't understand why the supporters behave like this. The World Cup organisers will have to react."
Krasnodar are currently bottom of Europa League Group A, while Swansea sit top of the table after three games.
