Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink interested in becoming new Leeds United manager

Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink is confident that he can "take the club forward" should he be appointed as Leeds United's new manager.

Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink has admitted that he is interested in becoming the new manager of Leeds United should the club choose to hold talks with the former Dutch striker.

The Championship club are in the hunt for a new boss after owner Massimo Cellino opted to sack Dave Hockaday last month after just six games in charge.

Hasselbaink, who managed Belgian Second Division side Royal Antwerp for a season, played for Leeds for two years before joining Atletico Madrid and then Chelsea.

"Leeds United is a wonderful big club where I had two great years. If they want to talk to me, of course I would talk [to them]," Hasselbaink told talkSPORT.

"I've got experience, I know I could take the club forward and I know I can take the club back to where they need to go, but what do Leeds United themselves want? That's the most important question."

Meanwhile, reports have claimed that ex-Liverpool frontman Robbie Fowler has not applied for the position, despite yesterday's rumours stating that he is interested in taking charge at Elland Road.
