Eidur Gudjohnsen penalty earns Bolton Wanderers a draw against Leeds United

Bolton Wanderers and Leeds United play out a 1-1 in the Championship thanks to penalties from Eidur Gudjohnsen and Rodolph Austin respectively.

A converted penalty apiece meant that Bolton Wanderers drew 1-1 with Leeds United at the Macron Stadium on Saturday.

Rodolph Austin gave the visitors the lead with a third-minute spot-kick, before Eidur Gudjohnsen responded for the hosts shortly after the restart.

Sam Byram rounded Andy Lonergan before being brought down, but the goalkeeper escaped a booking for the incident before Austin made no mistake from 12 yards to give the visitors an early advantage.

Bolton almost found a route back into the game when Matt Mills headed over the bar from a corner, before Byram's shot was well blocked by Dorian Dervite.

Liam Feeney was next to try his luck when he pounced on a loose ball before firing a 25-yard effort just wide of the Leeds goal.

Neil Lennon's side almost restored parity shortly after the half-hour mark when a Mills flick-on was met by Liam Trotter, but Leeds goalkeeper Marco Silvestri denied the home side with an athletic stop.

Former Chelsea striker Gudjohnsen scored his first goal in English football since 2010 when he converted from the penalty spot after Darren Pratley had been brought down three minutes into the second period.

Byram teed up Luke Murphy before the hour mark, but his left-footed effort failed to trouble Lonergan in the Bolton goal as two sides in the bottom half of the Championship table could not be separated.
