Leeds United are reportedly in advanced talks with Cagliari over a deal for Nahitan Nandez.
The 25-year-old has scored four times and registered seven assists in 72 appearances for his Italian club since making the move from Boca Juniors in 2019.
The Uruguay international still has three years left to run on his current contract, but there is believed to be a €36m (£30.1m) release clause in the agreement.
According to Corriere dello Sport, Leeds are in advanced negotiations with Cagliari over a deal, and the Whites are hopeful of reducing the asking price, which currently stands at the buy-out figure.
The report claims that Marcelo Bielsa's side are open to paying the fee in two instalments, and Gli Isolani are not against finding an agreement of that sort with the Premier League outfit.
Nandez, who is capable of operating in a number of different midfield positions, scored twice and registered three assists in 34 appearances for Leonardo Semplici's side during the 2020-21 campaign, and he is currently representing Uruguay at this summer's Copa America.
