Steve Davis blasts "inconsistent" referee for Leyton Orient defeat

Steve Davis berates referee Keith Shroud and accuses him of inconsistency following Crewe Alexandra's 2-0 defeat to Leyton Orient today.

Crewe Alexandra boss Steve Davis has blasted referee Keith Shroud for his "inconsistent" performance in their 2-0 defeat to Leyton Orient today.

The Railwaymen had two first-half penalties awarded against them, the first of which was missed by Kevin Lisbie, before David Mooney relieved him of spot-kick duties and converted the second.

Despite a much-improved second-half display, Davis believes that his side were victims of poor officiating throughout the opening 45 minutes that marred the remainder of the contest.

Speaking to reporters, the 48-year-old said: "We went a bit more direct in the second half and did better but the damage was done by then with their goals and some dubious decisions. I thought they got two penalties for nothing.

"Every time we come down this way we don't know the people in charge, they don't speak to us, we have no relationship, the fourth official was really arrogant and the referee was inconsistent. I think George got the ball for the second penalty.

Crewe, who sit 13th in League One, travel to Swindon Town next Saturday.
