Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp says that Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain's debut goal for the club will "help him a lot".

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has claimed that Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain's confidence will rise now that he has opened his account at the club.

Since moving to Anfield from Arsenal on transfer deadline day in August, the England international has struggled for first-team action.

The 24-year-old has played just 85 minutes in the Premier League across five substitute appearances and once again he failed to make the lineup as the Reds faced Maribor in the Champions League on Tuesday night.

It turned out to be a historic match for the Merseyside outfit as they romped to a 7-0 victory - the biggest away win by any English club in tournament history.

Oxlade-Chamberlain entered the field of play in the 57th minute when Liverpool were already five goals to the good, and thanks to a pin-point pass from Daniel Sturridge the former Arsenal man netted his first goal for the club.

"It will open his chest," Klopp told reporters. "It will help him a lot. He could have scored two. It was nice from Daniel how he made this goal, really cool."

Roberto Firmino and Mohamed Salah scored two each, while Philippe Coutinho and Trent Alexander-Arnold also got in on the goalscoring action.
