Ryan Babel: 'Steven Gerrard exit will drive Liverpool on'

Ryan Babel believes that Steven Gerrard's summer exit from Liverpool will give the team the perfect motivation to end the season successfully.

Ex-Liverpool winger Ryan Babel believes that Steven Gerrard's imminent Anfield exit will give the team greater motivation to finish the season strongly.

Gerrard, who joins Los Angeles Galaxy in July, will celebrate his 35th birthday on May 30, the same day that the FA Cup final is held.

Babel thinks that one last trophy would be the perfect ending to the captain's career with the Reds.

The Dutchman told the club's official website: "They have looked very good in the last few weeks and have much more confidence than before.

"There's still a good chance of ending in the top four and, knowing it will be Gerrard's last possibility to win a trophy for Liverpool, I am sure the team want to push hard to make sure they end up with one.

"Given their spirit and how Liverpool have always lived for football, I'm sure they'll give their all."

Babel left the Reds in January 2011 and currently plies his trade for Kasimpasa, in Turkey.
