Following a lacklustre start, the visitors took the lead in the 21st minute when Yannick Bolasie pounced on a loose ball inside the box and slotted past Simon Mignolet with a shot inside the right post.

Five minutes later Liverpool upped the ante when Jordon Ibe found space in the right channel and cut back to Philippe Coutinho, but the latter's low shot was charged down by Palace skipper Damien Delaney.

The Reds were able to drag themselves level three minutes before the break through Coutinho, who charged into space about 10 yards out to latch onto the ball and fire in low past Wayne Hennessey.
