Malky Mackay has praised his Cardiff City players after they pushed Liverpool to penalties in the Carling Cup final yesterday.
The scores were level at 2-2 at the end of extra time and the Reds went on to win the spot kicks 3-2 to lift the cup.
"We are disappointed but we have a lot to be proud of. The players lost with dignity," the Bluebirds boss said.
"They lost a goal in extra time but showed great courage and character to come back and get an equaliser to take it to penalties, which the players thoroughly deserved.
"To take one of the best teams in England — possibly Europe — to penalties and run them so close is something the whole group can be proud of."
Cardiff continue their bid for Premier League promotion when they host West Ham United on Sunday, March 4.
