Brendan Rodgers: 'Liverpool players did well after journey back from Turkey'

Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers praises his players for beating Manchester City 2-1 despite having their game preparations hampered by travelling back from Turkey.

Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers has praised his players for securing a 2-1 win against Manchester City despite having their preparations hampered by the journey back from Besiktas.

Following their Europa League defeat to the Turkish giants on Thursday night, the Reds did not touch down on English soil until approximately 4am on Friday morning.

Despite this, Jordan Henderson opened the scoring at Anfield, only for Edin Dzeko to equalise for the visitors before Philippe Coutinho curled in the winner.

Rodgers told BBC Sport after the game: "I have to take my hat off to players. By the time they got to bed it was six, and they had to sleep all of Friday.

"We then did some light work yesterday, but to come out and play like they did, they were relentless. They restricted a top team to just one shot on target and deserve all the praise they will get."

Liverpool currently sit fifth in the Premier League table and are unbeaten in 11 top-flight games.
